Which binding works in a workbook?
For workbook printing, a binding that lies flat is almost a requirement: people write in it, so the book must stay flat and open. A wire-o binding is ideal: it lies completely flat and lets you fold pages right back, handy when someone wants only the current exercise open.
For a thinner workbook a stapled finish works well. For a thick workbook that spans a whole programme, a perfect binding is a tidy option.
Which paper prevents show-through?
If people write in the workbook with pen, choose paper of at least 90 gsm, so ink does not show through to the exercise on the back. For workbooks in which people also draw or colour, 100 to 120 gsm is better.
A4 is the most popular size: room for exercises with fill-in fields and plenty of writing space. A5 works for a compact workbook participants carry with them.
Supplying your file
Supply your file as a print-ready PDF with embedded fonts. Check that fill-in fields, lines and exercises sit on the right page and do not disappear into the gutter. Keep a generous inner margin.
