Print a cookbook in 3 steps
- Choose your specification. Decide on size, binding, paper and cover. For the kitchen we recommend a binding that lies flat.
- Supply your file. Upload a print-ready PDF in CMYK with 3 mm bleed. We check resolution and colours.
- We print and deliver. Once your file is approved, your cookbook arrives within 5 to 7 working days.
Which binding lies flat?
This is the key choice for cookbook printing. A book that snaps shut while you cook does not work. A wire-o binding or a sewn binding keeps the book lying flat and open, so your hands stay free while you cook.
Wire-o lies the flattest and lets you fold pages right back. A sewn hardcover looks more luxurious and is sturdier over time, ideal when the cookbook becomes a gift or a family heirloom.
Which paper stands up to the kitchen?
In the kitchen a book faces splashes and greasy fingers. Choose matt or silk paper of 135 to 170 gsm: it reflects less than gloss and stays readable under kitchen lighting. A matt-laminated cover wipes clean with a damp cloth.
Gloss paper makes dishes look a little more saturated but reflects under bright light. For a book that is genuinely used, matt or silk is the more practical choice.
Format and supplying your file
A4 portrait is the most popular size: room for a large photograph beside the ingredient list, and readable from a distance while you cook. Supply your file as a print-ready PDF in CMYK at a minimum of 300 dpi for sharp photographs of your dishes, and keep 3 mm bleed on full-page images. Not sure about your file? We are happy to check it at no charge.
As a gift, for your club or to sell
A cookbook of family recipes is a treasured gift that lasts for generations. Clubs and schools use them to raise funds, with recipes from members. Because we print from a single copy, you can start small. To sell your cookbook through bookshops, you will need an ISBN, see the International ISBN Agency.
