Which paper suits a photo book?
For photo book printing, choose coated paper: the coating keeps ink on the surface so colours stay saturated and sharp. Silk paper gives rich colour with little reflection, while gloss makes colours more vivid but shows reflections and fingerprints. For most photo books, silk of 150 gsm or more is the safest choice.
A sewn hardcover lies flat, so a panorama spread runs across two pages without disappearing into the gutter. Exactly what you want for a landscape or a view you captured.
Colour and resolution
Your screen shows RGB while printing uses CMYK, so vivid blues, greens and oranges can shift slightly in print. Work and supply in CMYK, and request a proof if colour is critical. Supply your photographs at a minimum of 300 dpi at actual size: use the full-quality originals, not the compressed versions you share on social media.
Keep 3 mm bleed on full-page images and mind the inner margin on spreads, so nothing important disappears into the gutter.
Format and finish
Square formats such as 21 × 21 cm or 30 × 30 cm are versatile, as both portrait and landscape photographs fit well. A4 landscape suits panoramas. For a premium result, choose a hardcover with a matt-laminated cover; for a lighter, more economical option, softcover works well.
For families, photographers and travellers
People print photo books of a wedding, a journey or a year in the life of their family; photographers use them as portfolios or to sell. Because we print from a single copy, you can order a proof and check how your images come out before ordering more. For guidance on colour management, see the International Color Consortium.
Frequently asked questions about photo book printing
Can I order a single copy?
Yes. With photo books we recommend ordering a proof first, so you can see how your colours come out on paper.
Silk or gloss paper?
Silk gives rich colour with little reflection and suits most photo books. Gloss makes colours more vivid but shows reflections and fingerprints.
What resolution do my photos need?
A minimum of 300 dpi at actual size. Lower-resolution images print grainy or soft.
