Print your novel in 3 steps

  • Choose your specification. Decide on size, hardcover or softcover, paper and cover finish.
  • Supply your file. Upload a print-ready PDF with embedded fonts.
  • We print and deliver. Once your file is approved, your novel arrives within 5 to 7 working days.

Which binding suits a novel?

For novel printing, softcover (paperback) is the norm: light, economical and exactly what readers expect from fiction. A perfect-bound softcover keeps costs down for larger print runs, which makes it ideal if you plan to sell.

For a special or collector’s edition, a hardcover with a sewn binding gives a lasting, premium result. Many authors order a small run of hardcovers alongside a larger softcover print run.

Paper and format

For a novel, cream novel paper of 80 to 90 gsm reads most pleasantly: the light cream tone is calmer for the eyes than bright white over hundreds of pages. It also keeps a thick book light and comfortable to hold.

A5 and 12.5 × 20 cm are the usual novel sizes. A lighter paper stock keeps even a long novel easy to hold in one hand.

Supplying your file

Supply your novel as a print-ready PDF with embedded fonts, so your typography is preserved exactly. Keep a generous inner margin, especially on a thick book, and start chapters on a right-hand page as is conventional. Not sure about your file? We are happy to check it with you at no charge.

Publishing and selling your novel

Because we print from a single copy, you can order a proof, read it, and only then order a print run. If you want to sell your novel through bookshops or online stores, you will need an ISBN, which you apply for yourself at the International ISBN Agency and link to your edition.
