Print a manga in 3 steps

  • Choose your specification. Decide on format, binding, paper and cover finish.
  • Supply your file. Upload a print-ready PDF with the correct page order and 3 mm bleed.
  • We print and deliver. Once your file is approved, your manga arrives within 5 to 7 working days.

Format and reading direction

For manga printing, the traditional format is compact, around B6 (12.8 × 18.2 cm) or A5 — smaller than a European comic album, which suits the pacing of the genre. A perfect binding (softcover) is the standard look for a manga volume.

Manga is traditionally read right to left. If you want that, set up your file so the reading order and the binding edge match: the spine on the right and pages progressing right to left. Tell us your intended reading direction so we produce it correctly.

Black-and-white printing and screentones

Most manga interiors are black and white, which makes screentones (the grey raster patterns for shading) crucial. Supply your pages at high resolution, ideally 600 dpi for line art and screentones, so fine raster patterns stay crisp and do not turn into muddy grey or moiré in print.

Choose lightweight cream or wood-free paper of 70 to 90 gsm for the interior, as used in published manga: light to hold across a thick volume and easy on the eyes.

Supplying your file

Supply your file as a print-ready PDF with the pages in the correct reading order. Use solid black (100% K) for line art and keep screentones at high resolution to avoid moiré. Keep speech balloons and key art out of the gutter, especially on spreads. Not sure about your file? We are happy to check it at no charge.

For manga artists and self-publishers

Manga artists and self-publishers print their own volumes to sell at conventions and online. Because we print from a single copy, you can order a proof and check how your screentones and black-and-white art come out before ordering a run. To sell your manga through shops, you will need an ISBN, see the International ISBN Agency.
