- We print and deliver. Once your file is approved, your comic book arrives within 5 to 7 working days.
Which format and binding suit a comic?
For comic book printing, the classic album format (roughly A4, 21 × 28 cm) is the traditional choice for a European-style comic, with room for large panels. A graphic novel often works well slightly smaller, closer to a book format.
For a thin comic a stapled binding is fine; for a full album or graphic novel a perfect or sewn binding is neater and more durable. A sewn hardcover gives a premium, collector’s-edition feel.
Colour, paper and print quality
Comics live on colour and crisp line art, so choose coated paper: silk of 135 gsm or more keeps colours saturated and lines sharp. For a classic album look, a slightly heavier matt paper suits the style. Gloss makes colours pop but reflects more.
Work in CMYK and supply your artwork at a minimum of 300 dpi at actual size. Bright, saturated colours can shift slightly from screen to print, so request a proof if colour is critical. See the International Color Consortium for more on colour.
Supplying your file
Supply your file as a print-ready PDF in CMYK with 3 mm bleed on full-page panels. Keep important elements such as speech balloons and key line art clear of the trim and out of the gutter, especially on double-page spreads. Check that lettering is sharp and legible at print size. Not sure about your file? We are happy to check it at no charge.
For comic artists and self-publishers
Comic artists and self-publishers print their own titles to sell at conventions, in shops or online. Because we print from a single copy, you can order a proof and judge how your colours and line art come out before ordering a run. To sell your comic through shops, you will need an ISBN, see the International ISBN Agency.
