Delivery times and rush options: when do you have your book?

When will you have your printed book in hand? Around delivery times and rush options we make clear agreements: 5 to 7 working days as standard after approval of your file, with faster options if you are in a hurry. Here you can read what the delivery time depends on and how to shorten it.

Delivery times and rush options: when will you have your book?

What does the delivery time depend on?

  • Binding: section sewn and hardcover take more production time than saddle stitching or adhesive binding.
  • Finishing: luxury techniques such as foil or spot UV extend the lead time.
  • Print run: large quantities require more production time.
  • File check: a correctly supplied file prevents delay.

In a hurry?

Do you need your book sooner, for instance for an event or a trade fair? A rush production is often possible for a surcharge. Give us your preferred delivery date with your request and we will see what is feasible.

Tips for a smooth delivery

Supply your file print-ready as PDF/X, check the spine width and allow for a short review round. That way you avoid delay and can be sure your book is ready on time. Get in touch for a concrete delivery time for your project. Once your book is ready to ship, delivery runs via the carrier; you can find current delivery information at PostNL.

The rule of thumb for your planning

With delivery times and rush options, think in three blocks. First the file check: usually one working day, longer if something has to be adjusted. Then production: printing, binding and finishing, usually three to five working days depending on binding and print run. Finally transport, often one to two days within the Netherlands and longer abroad.

Together that comes to five to seven working days for a standard book. If you have a hard deadline, always add a few days of leeway. Not because things often go wrong, but because a single correction round on your file eats up those days, and you cannot move a presentation or an anniversary.

Note that we count in working days. Weekends and public holidays do not count, so an order placed on Thursday effectively starts running on Monday. Around holidays and during holiday periods the carriers are busier too. If you need a book for a presentation, a book launch or an anniversary, plan back from that date and set your latest order date a week earlier than you would think.

What delays a delivery

  • A file that is not right. Missing bleed, RGB images or fonts that are not embedded cost a correction round.
  • Late approval. The clock only starts once you approve the check; a day of silence is a day of delay.
  • Special finishing. Foil, a dust jacket or coloured endpapers require extra handling in the bindery.
  • A hardcover. A bound case has to dry and press; that takes more time than a softcover.

You always see the expected delivery time straight away in the calculator, including the rush option if it is available for your configuration. If your date is really tight, mention it with your order; then we will check whether it is feasible before you pay.

Frequently asked questions about delivery times

How long does it take before my book is ready?

As standard 5 to 7 working days after approval of your file, plus shipping time. With large print runs or special finishing it can take a little longer.

Can it be faster if I am in a hurry?

Often it can. Get in touch with your preferred date and we will see whether faster production is possible for your specification.

How do I prevent delay?

Supply your file print-ready and respond quickly to questions. Most delay comes from correction rounds, not from the printing house itself.

When does the delivery time start running?

After approval of your file, not when you place the order. If you supply on Friday afternoon, production in practice starts on Monday.

Can I have it delivered abroad?

Yes, we deliver throughout Europe. Allow a few extra days of transport time; the exact number is shown at checkout based on your country.
