Which format and binding suit a biography?
For biography printing, a text-led book reads most comfortably in A5 or 14 × 21 cm. A hardcover with a sewn binding gives a lasting, dignified result that suits a book about someone’s life, especially when it is meant as a keepsake or tribute.
For a version shared more widely among family, colleagues or members, softcover is lighter and more economical, and it posts easily.
Paper and photographs
For a text-based biography, cream novel paper or wood-free offset of 80 to 90 gsm reads pleasantly and is gentle on the eyes. If the biography includes a photo section, choose 120 gsm silk for that part so the images are sharp and clear.
A hardcover can be finished with a dust jacket or with printing directly on the case. Photographs of the person and their life bring a biography to life, so scan older prints carefully at high resolution.
