Which specification suits a diary?
For diary printing, a hardcover with a sewn binding gives a lasting, personal result: a keepsake that survives years of handling and rereading. A sewn binding also lies flat, which is pleasant if you leaf back through earlier entries.
For a lighter, more economical version, softcover works well, especially if you want to print a series of volumes over time.
Paper and format
For a text-led diary, cream novel paper or wood-free offset of 80 to 90 gsm reads most pleasantly: the light cream tone is gentle on the eyes. If your diary includes photographs, choose 120 gsm silk for those pages so the images are sharp.
A5 and 14 × 21 cm are the usual sizes: handy to hold and personal in feel. A6 works for a compact, pocket-sized diary.
Supplying your file
Supply your file as a print-ready PDF with embedded fonts, so your layout is preserved exactly. If your diary includes scanned handwriting or photographs, scan them at a minimum of 300 dpi at actual size. Keep a generous inner margin on a thick book. Not sure about your file? We are happy to check it at no charge.
A personal keepsake
A printed diary is a personal thing: a record of a year, a journey, a pregnancy or a period in your life. Because we print from a single copy, you can print exactly one for yourself, or a few for close family. The quality is identical to a larger print run, so your keepsake is beautifully finished either way. For tips on preparing your file, see our knowledge base. For guidance on paper and print quality, see the International Color Consortium.
