Choose FSC-certified paper from responsibly managed forests. You can also opt for recycled paper, although that sometimes has a slightly greyer tone that is not suitable for every book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CO&#8322;-neutral production and delivery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In-house production limits transport and intermediate steps.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offset the remaining emissions through a carbon compensation programme.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose bundled, efficient shipping to limit journeys.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Print the right quantity to prevent surplus and waste.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Print only what you need<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most sustainable sheets are the ones you do not print. A run that largely ends up in a warehouse and is destroyed after two years weighs heavier than any paper choice. With print on demand or a small starting run you print what you actually sell or hand out, and reprint when it is needed. That saves paper, storage and transport at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It costs you a little more per copy, but you do not have to pay in advance for stock that may never move. On top of that you can correct along the way: a wrong year or a changed address is adjusted for the next run, instead of leaving you with a thousand outdated books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where else the gains are<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Transport distance.<\/strong> We produce in house in &rsquo;s-Hertogenbosch, so your sheets do not travel across half of Europe first.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inks.<\/strong> Modern presses work with plant-based inks instead of mineral oil.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Finishing.<\/strong> Lamination makes a book last longer but complicates recycling. For an edition that has to last for years that is a sensible trade-off; for a leaflet for one season it is not.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Format.<\/strong> A format that fits efficiently on the press sheet produces less trim waste. Start with the paper, then look critically at your print run, and let the finishing match how long the book really has to last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Show your sustainable choice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone who makes an effort to print sustainably may also show it. The FSC logo belongs in the colophon or on the back of the cover, small and quietly designed. You may only carry it if your edition really is printed on certified paper; we supply you with the correct logo file as soon as your choice is final. Be precise about it: do not claim a book is CO&#8322;-neutral if only the paper is certified. A concrete, verifiable statement is more credible than a big word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does sustainable printing cost extra?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Less than most people think. FSC-certified paper is simply in stock and rarely differs in price by more than a few per cent; the quality is equal to that of regular paper. The biggest saving, incidentally, is on the other side: by choosing your print run realistically, you do not pay for books you later throw away. There, more sustainable and cheaper coincide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sustainable printing in practice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sustainable printing mostly comes down to not printing more than you need. Because we produce digitally, you can order a proof copy first and decide on the print run afterwards, which avoids leftover stock being pulped later. The second lever is your paper. Look for the mark of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fsc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forest Stewardship Council<\/a>, which certifies wood from responsibly managed forests.
